When I first gave the book Le Tour du Monde de Mouk to my 3-year old son, he was immediately captured by it. And so was I. We like to bring it when we go on a trip. Although there are not that many words in it, the good news is that an English translation is coming out. Around the world with Mouk can be pre-ordered on amazon.com in US$ or amazon.co.uk for ££.
Illustrated by French artist Marc Boutavant, it tells the story of a brown little bear who embarks on a happy journey to discover all the beautiful cultures around the world. It’s a very stimulating book, thanks to the vivid colors and the interactions between the characters. It’s also a great way to introduce the little ones to the diversity of our world. Marcelo has spent hours looking at each page, and we like to play a game of going around the world saying Bonjour in different languages: Aloha, Konichiwa, Buenos dias…Despite its rather large size, it’s very resistant as it is made of plastic coated pages and it comes with entertaining little stickers to place around on the pages. Needless to say that it’s a must carry-on for any long-range flight that we take.
BozAround tips: I recently discovered the blog Book By Its Cover from a Brooklyn-based illustrator and collector of children’s books. It’s now on my bookmark.
