Beautiful Istanbul |1| Turkey

I’ve come many times to Istanbul. I even got married in Istanbul. Yet, each time we are back, I am amazed by the energy of the city, its incredible light, almost mystical at times. It’s a city of contrasts, where the old ottoman empire seems to blend in with the modernity of the west very naturally.

For our first day of the vacation today , we watched the ships go by on the Bosphorus, from the Istanbul Modern museum.

2010 is “Istanbul, European Capital of Culture”. A perfect year to plan a family trip. But I am not sure where to start. There is so much to see and say about this city. So I’ll give a few glimpses here and there. And we’ll take it from there.

Lunch at the cafe / restaurant of Istanbul Modern: excellent food, great design, big windows, and a view of the old city and Topkapi Palace. A perfect way to feel the buzz from a calm place. And lots of interesting modern artists to view in the permanent exhibition. My favorite discovery today: Selma Gurbuz – on folk art and feminism.
