The Crafting Community at Ace Hotel, Palm Springs USA

The very cool Ace Hotel in Palm Springs,USA recently hosted a Kimmel Kids Crafting w/e. What a fun initiative. More events are in the making, so stay tuned

these are potato-print bandanas drying under the Californian sun…

It was a 48-hour adventure that included everything from s’mores (scroll down for a definition) under the stars to a family movie night with luminescent glow sticks. The art workshop ranged from designing your own Converse sneakers (one of the sponsoring partners), to macrame, dioramas, and jewelry design made of scraps of cloth donated by American Apparel. Evenings were spent with family style diners (taco night was a favorite apparently) gathered around the camp fire.

Now I have another good reason to visit Palm Springs with the family. One day.

Above is a garden in the making…Below are confetti system pinatas…

Kimmel Kids is a line of educational tools and toys created by LA-based installation artist Karine Kimmel. They are distributed at Crewcuts in the USA, as well as at the MOMA store in NY, Fred Segal in LA and Colette in Paris. The Kimmel Kids Exchange Collection includes a great kit with six colorful, laser cut stencils and n coloring book with templates, die-cut colored pages, and letterpress chipboard covers. All of this coming with a guarantee for fun.

The Ace Hotel group (4 hotels to date) was recently selected as “The Next Wave” of hoteliers in Times Magazine’s list of 100 Business Innovators. One to keep an eye on…

Also, in case you did not know what S’mores are: a dessert made around a camp fire. Roasted marshmallows with grahm crackers and chocolate, squished into a delicious marshmallow sandwich…Yum Yum…
