We used to benchmark our cost of living on the Big Mac Index published in The Economist every week. I much prefer T+L new method of comparison: the Cupcake index.
Here is what a cupcake will cost you from Japan to Jordan:
In Tokyo, US$5.17 from Tokyo Sweets Factory for a 2.8 by 2.4 inches
In Melbourne, US$4.53 from Little Cupcakes for a 2.5 by 1.5 inches
In New York, US$3.95 from Babycakes for a 3 by 3 inches
In Los Angeles, US$3.25 from Sprinkles for a 3.5 by 3 inches
In Aman, Jordan, US$2.50 from Sugar Daddy’s Bakery for a 2.5 by 2.5 inches
As London was not accounted for in T+L survey, I went to Primrose Hill Bakery and at US$2.80 a cupcake, I realized that the city actually comes second to cheapest..Mhhh??… Hmmm!!! (Don’t ask me the size. I ate it already)
