In his wildest dreams, Marcelo would live in the jungle and wake up to the sound of the monkeys. Well, it’s not far from reality at Congo Bongo in Costa Rica…You gotta love the name.
Venezuelan visual artist and mother-of-two Isabel Ron Pedrique took her family there and reports for BozAround. Gracias Isabel.
Located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica not too far from Panama, it’s a relatively easy plane ride from NY to San José, via Orlando (FL). You then rent a car and drive a total 3h45 via the Parque Nacional Braulio Carillo.
The main nearby town is Puerto Viejo, which is really lovely with restaurants and a nice AfroCaribbean vibe. Manzanillo is the spot where Congo Bongo is located. We stayed in the Palm House, but the Dream House is nicer and just 200m from the beach, which is amazing. The walk from the house to the beach is an adventure in itself, full of monkeys and Tucans…Waouahhh
Costa Rica is sometimes called the Switzerland of Central America. It’s safe, extremely family friendly, easy to travel, very green and hilly, very healthy. Most people and resorts are located on the Pacific coast and for that reason Congo Bongo on the Caribbean coast really feels like a hidden gem in the jungle.
