Whenever we take a family city trip, I search the NY Times archives for a possible 36 Hours article on the place we’re visiting. Love the focus, the format, the concise descriptions of places which are usually spot on. So it was all too natural that they would compile some of their best weekly columns in a book, published by Taschen.
Calling itself The Ultimate Travel Guide to the USA and Canada, they’re focusing geographically on North America, which – I must confess – am a bit disappointed by. Unless soon after there’s a serie coming out with the rest of the world…?
Ok, the guides are typically not written with families in mind, and you’ll find lots of recommendations to go out at night, or have a meal in the latest happening place. But that’s what I like. Even though we might not use all the advice, I like knowing what’s happening where, just in case a babysitter & a burst of energy would pop up last minute.
The book is out at the end of the month, and can be pre-ordered online here.
