Chucuito Fertility Temple, Lake Titicaca, Peru

There is a little proverb in French that says ‘jamais 2 sans 3‘ which means, something that occurs twice will always occur a third time. Let’s see if we can increase the odds of the Temple of Fertility to 4, or much more. Let me explain, and let me warn you that I’m going to get a bit personal here. I hope that’s ok for everyone. This is blogging after all:-)

Before Marcelo was born, we had a bit of a setback. I had a miscarriage. It took me by surprise. I thought at (the still young age of) 30, there was maybe something wrong with me. And then I learnt that as many as 1 in 5 women experiences one or more miscarriage in her life, and the statistics gave me some comfort. But still, numbers are numbers, and I felt the need to increase my chances beyond folic acid. I organized a trip to El Templo de la Fertilidad, on the banks of Lake Titicaca in Peru.

Of course, that’s not how I sold the trip to my super-rational husband. We would officially visit Machu Pichu (which is btw a true wonder of this world, celebrating the 100th year of its discovery this year), and we would take a little side trip for a few days to the Andean high plains of Lake Titicaca. There, we’d tour the lake, conveniently stop by Puno and the ‘templo de la fertilidad’, and visit the many beautiful floating villages.

Truth is, I fell pregnant 2 months later, had the easiest pregnancy (delivery was another story…) and a beautiful little boy. On 3 occasions since then, I have passed the photo above to girlfriends who were having difficulties conceiving. Believe it or not, within 2 months of sharing the photo, I was getting the good news. So…….1+3=4

Might be true, might be luck (read How Real is That Ruin if you’re a natural skeptical).  But it won’t hurt, if you’re trying to have a baby and can’t exactly make it to Puno, to print this photo and keep it close to your pillow. Here it is from another angle, just to increase those odds!!!!!!

Good luck xx
