Swap Swap and Behomm

Nov 22, 2013

Our decisions are more often than not driven by a sense of community, of belonging. This is truer than ever in the travel market. I talked about Kid & Coe recently, a brand new website dedicated to allowing design-loving families to rent vacation properties from other like-minded families.

Enter Behomm, a home exchange community for designers and visual artists.

The site lets you swap tasteful properties within a membership-only group where all the members have joined by invitation-only. The criteria to ‘enter the club” can sound very exclusive – how about if you’re a doctor with an incredible eye for design?? – but I guess this guarantees the like-mindedness of the members, something that is at the heart of swapping.  My house is yours. Your house is mine. As long as we think alike, as long as we respect each others along a similar set of values. (read here for an older post on this too).

The cool factor keeps on getting cooler in the home-away-from-home market.

Many thanks Vanessa for your article. It’s an honour to be published at your interesting blog. You’re doing such a great work!

Why is Behomm only for designers and visual artists? As you already say we narrowed Behomm because home exchange works better when you exchange with somebody similar to you… much more easy to match well and succeed in your home exchanges…. We personally are graphic designers and that’s why we limited the community to visual professions.

Hope this explanation helps. Thanks again for your beautiful post.

Hello Eva. I am glad that you took the time to explain your vision. Niche is the way to go in this saturated market, good luck with Behomm, it’s a great site and a great travel resource.

It is interesting indeed to see that good design is what people are trying to find more and more for their holidays. I agree with you Vanessa that creativity, style and good taste can be found in many types of people, and not only those who practice it as a profession.

In any case, some of the houses on the site can easily be found on other rental or swap sites, which thankfully shows that the owners have an open mind and are ready to exchange with people who, while not having the same profession, could still be of the same mind as them.

Hi Stephanie, we agree with you that creativity, style and good taste can be found in many types of people… for sure!
We understand the feeling of being excluded… not nice… But there are many home exchange sites open to everybody where any person can join…. Narrowing to a certain professions is our value, our differential… you’ll agree with us that otherwise we would be exactly as the rest of home exchange sites.
