A few last tips on Istanbul |5| Turkey

Apr 11, 2010

Sorry I’m not done yet. Too much to say about Beautiful Istanbul!

A great place to stay with children is actually renting an apartment with The House Apart. Furnished in the same spirit as the few House Cafes, these rental apartments come with everything you might need for a short stay. They can provide you with a baby cot or extra bed for the children. They have one and two bedrooms and I would recommend to stay in the ones in Tunel. Email Selcuk the reservation manager for specific questions.

Otherwise, Ibrahim Pasha is a well priced and atmospheric small hotel in Sultanhamet if you want to stay inside the historic center. Also, many cool hotels have opened over the last few years.  Tom Tom Suites looks like a good option in this category, with its roof top terrace.  And the Ciragan Palace will always be the Ciragan Palace (photo at the top). A grand 5 star right by the Bosphorus, with one of the most beautiful swimming pool in the world. Not kidding.

Sultanahmet is the historic area with the most incredible concentration of places to visit. You should make time for Hagia Sophia (closed Mondays), the Blue Mosque, the Yerebatan Sarnici and Topkapi Palace (the visit of the Harem is fascinating). It’s of course a very touristy and sometimes annoying part of town because you’ll get a lot of hassles, but don’t be discouraged.

Sultanahmet Koftecisi is a great lunch place to stop for a rest. Be sure to head to the original one at 12 Divanyolu Caddesi (the main road with the tramway) because there are pale copies around. It’s cheap, fast, noisy and absolutely delicious. You can also have a nice lunch on the terrace of Cafe Rumeli around the corner, it’s more of a restaurant.

I think that’s it on Istanbul for now. If you can make it there this year, I would love your feedback.

Opcuk. Vanessa

(just a sweet way to say: kisses).
